Initiated in 2017, Nitida is a workhorse type system designed to withstand the severe effects of the different kinds of media, from print to digital. Rather than making a typographic collage of diverse historical sources, with Nitida, we intended to explore the potential of oldstyle typefaces while carefully tuning them for improved readability in editorial projects. Characterized by the serifs curving sharply to the stems, which provide elegance and crispness to the text setting, Nitida explores the idea of cleanliness, compromise, and balance of white and dark spaces. The result is a cohesive set of 114 fonts that includes three different widths, seven weights, and versions for five different optical sizes — most with roman and italics.
